We all know Sir Patrick Stewart is awesome, right? From Excalibur to Jean-Luc Picard in a onesie to bro-ing out with Sir Ian McKellen all over Twitter, there's nothing not to love.
So, being a generally wonderful human being, Stewart tweeted his support for actress Ellen Page upon her celebrated coming out. Guardian reporter Jane Czyzselska, clearly in a hurry to fill column inches (down, girl), interpreted from Stewart's well-wishes that he, too, was a gay:
Three cheers for Ellen Page – but coming out should not be such big news,’ that ‘some gay people, such as Sir Patrick Stewart, think Page’s coming out speech is newsworthy because a high-profile and surprisingly politically aware young actress has decided not to play by the rules that so many closeted Hollywood actors are advised to follow if they are to enjoy mainstream success.’
Though the article was quickly and crisply corrected, the quick-eyed knight saw and tweeted in response, "Well, @guardian it makes for a nice change...at least I didn't wake up to the internet telling me I was dead again.."
And, as with most things that involve Sir Patrick Stewart and Twitter, it just got better from there.
Fabulous. We geeks know that, regardless of the scorching Picard-Riker fanfic there must be, Sir Patrick Stewart is happily married to a very nice-looking lady. In fact, he was ceremoniously inducted into official heterosexuality by none other than his beknighted bestie, McKellen Me Softly honoree Sir Ian McKellen.
Always check your facts, miss! And, Sir Patrick: Please never change.
