- Last year's Star Trek: Beyond underperformed at the box office, so it's no surprise that Paramount would seek to shake things up with whatever their next film was. Quentin Tarantino, of all people, directing an R-rated Trek movie was probably not what anyone expected. Tarantino is on record as a huge Star Trek fan, but I'm not sure that blood, bare feet, or racial slurs are the franchise's way forward. On the other hand, Patrick Stewart wants to play Picard again if Tarantino directs... though with no word on whether Tarantino even wants to use Picard in the new movie, I wouldn't get too excited just yet.
- Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, and Jeff Goldblum return to save the dinosaurs in the first trailer for Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom.
- Ghost in the Shell flopped earlier this year. Nonetheless, producer James Cameron and director Robert Rodriguez are adapting another popular sci-fi manga/anime property in Alita: Battle Angel, which got its first trailer this week.
- Next year's animated feature Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse features the big-screen debut of Miles Morales, and teases the appearance of myriad Spider-Men (and women). And dare I hope for a certain Spider-Ham?
