Single Female Lawyer, Fighting For Her Clients

Charles Soule and Javier Pulido bring us the new super-lawyer-y adventures of Jennifer Walters, Esq.

A few months ago, I made a short post about the return of She-Hulk in February 2014.  Guess what happened today?

First off, let's just look at that wonderful Kevin Wada cover for a minute.

Fantastic stuff.  She-Hulk (2014) #1 starts with a great montage page of She-Hulk doing the stuff she's known for.  Punching things and bad guys.  Partying with the Avengers.  Being absolutely adorable with a kid holding a Shulkie action figure.  And then the book goes all David E. Kelley into lawyer town.  And it is sensational.

This is a done in one story - a rarity these days, especially for a first issue.  But this is not a quick read.  Between Soule's snappy dialogue (including an incredible legal history of Tony Stark's various business ventures) and Pulido's "modern Silver Age" linework (see also Mike Allred, Marcos Martin, Chris Samnee), this is a book that lends itself to review.  Soule has described the first twelve issues as being a season, and each issue an episode.  If the quality and momentum of the first issue can be maintained, this has a shot at becoming the definitive She-Hulk series.

I was hoping for a strong female-led title, and that's exactly what I got.  You can find She-Hulk #1 in stores today, or pick it up digitally through Marvel.com or Comixology.
