Unraveling the story behind the stereotype of video games being for boys.

Polygon provides a visually striking and factually fascinating history of video games that picks apart the notion that video games are a guy thing. This dovetails nicely with Anna Anthropy's call to code in Rise of the Videogame Zinesters: How Freaks, Normals, Amateurs, Artists, Dreamers, Dropouts, Queers, Housewives and People Like You Are Taking Back An Art Form. Both the book and the article highlight the fact that most game designers are straight, white cismen means that the games they create are made for a straight, white cismen consumer/audience.  Anthropy's book in particular encourages all of us to make games, which seems like a daunting task until she breaks it down empowerment-style.
