GO BIG OR GO EXTINCT

Guys......I just don't even know where to start. So, I'll just dive into it.

THE GOOD

So, Pacific Rim can essentially be described by the following quote by director, Guillermo del Toro:

It is my duty to commit to film the finest fucking monsters ever committed to screen and it is my duty to create the greatest fucking robots ever committed to screen.

They're called Jaegers, but not that kind of Jaeger.

And they're huge.

They're also all piloted by babes.

Total babes.

Australian babes.

Chinese triplet babes.

Bad-ass warrior babes.

Oh, and some Russians.

Did I mention the Jaegers?

Just.

Absolutely.

Amazing.

I mean, there's a literal, goddamn, rocket punch.

I mean, this movie is just INSANE.

The Bad

So the bad guys are these big monsters called kaiju, which is Japanese for "Big Monster." About 20 minutes into the future, they start pouring out of this rift in the Pacific ocean, and they just start stomping all over EVERYONE.

Everyone.

Some of them fly.

They put the cloverfield monster to shame.

I won't go into too many spoilers about the Kaiju, as they're a huge plot point But, AMAZING.

The Ugly

My issues with this movie are extremely limited. This was a fantastic movie all around, but there is only one thing that popped up for me as pretty sad.

Firstly, the movie plays to classic Hollywood tropes for science fiction, namely it fails the Bechdel Test, which Tumblr user emissaryofwind points out.

The Bechdel Test is essentially a way to look at a film, without the gender bias. Essentially, if two female characters have a conversation about something that isn't a man. This is extremely unfortunate for such a great movie. This kind of gender bias is unfair to women, and hard for men, like myself, to see.

As we all know, bias tropes, like Bury Your Gays, are a normal part of film and media, but should be pointed out at every occurence. And inaneenglish agrees.

Rating: 5/5 Gundams
