QUEER NOT COOL: Dynamic Duos!

We chat and see work from some real life, kick ass couples! We chat with playwright CRYSTAL SKILLMAN about her nerdtastic new play "Geek!" produced by Vampire Cowboys at Incubator Arts Space this March. Plus, we will get a sneak peak of "Geek!". We will chat with Crystal's husband comic book writer FRED VAN LENTE ("Cowboys & Aliens", "Iron Man") about his current projects "Gi Joe" and "Archer and Armstrong"). Plus, we welcome back the hilarious MAX BERNSTEIN ("Apocalyse Wow") and the one, the only rock'n' roll ventriloquist CARLA RHODES and her less-than-better (wooden) half CECIL SINCLAIRE.

Hosted by ROB RIBAR

Featuring

FRED VAN LENTE is the #1 New York Times bestselling author of Marvel Zombies, Incredible Hercules (with Greg Pak), Odd Is On Our Side (with Dean R. Koontz), as well as the American Library Association award-winning Action Philosophers. His original graphic novel Cowboys & Aliens (co-written with Andrew Foley) is the basis for the major motion picture starring Daniel Craig and Harrison Ford. Van Lente's other comics include The Comic Book History of Comics, Taskmaster, Archer & Armstrong, Amazing Spider-Man and Hulk: Season One. http://www.fredvanlente.com/

CRYSTAL SKILLMAN is the author of CUT (The Management, Apollinaire), THE VIGIL (ITG/Brick; 2010 NY Innovative Theatre Award for Outstanding Full-Length Script) as well as BIRTHDAY (Rising Phoenix Rep) and FOLLOW. Her new play GEEK will debut in NYC with Vampire Cowboys opening this March; WILD, which debuted in Chicago with Kid Brooklyn Productions this past summer, will make it's UK debut with Kibo Productions in summer 2013. She is currently the screenwriter of RUN in development with director Michael Melamedoff and she is a co-book writer on Bobby Cronin's musical THE CONCRETE JUNGLE (international recording coming out this spring). Plays available from Samuel French and http://www.indietheaternow.com/

VAMPIRE COWBOYS is an OBIE Award winning “geek theatre” company that creates and produces new works of theatre based in action/adventure and dark comedy with a comic book aesthetic. The company actively pursues the mating of different genres with varied theatrical styles to create an eclectic structure to tell its stories. The company aims to bridge the gap between mass media entertainment and the performing arts, exposing the community to challenging, thought-provoking live entertainment rooted in today’s pop-culture vernacular. http://www.vampirecowboys.com/

About GEEK! With pissed-off Pikachus, steam punk armies, stood-up Sailor Moons and roller-blading monsters on the prowl, it's easy to get lost in the Inferno-esque anime convention where the fans, the otakus, and the geeks prowl. But to score a rare signature from their comic book idol, teenage outcasts Dayna and Honey will take on obsessive magic players, Jedis and elfs, cosplayers and convention guards - through all nine flights of Ohio's Dante's Fire-Con - to get a chance to shake hands with their pop-culture hero. http://www.vampirecowboys.com/shows.htm

CARLA RHODES is a rock ‘n’ roll ventriloquist & comedienne. She caught the ventriloquial bug at the age of nine after seeing Shari Lewis and Lamb Chop on television. Carla later caught the attention of her hero and as a result, was mentored by Shari Lewis. Dubbed by New York Magazine as one of the “Ten New Comedians That Funny People Find Funny” and The Villager says it best: “Rhodes is the Savion Glover of vents, almost single-handedly injecting a notoriously uncool and backward-looking performance branch with a badly-needed kick in the ass.” http://www.carlarhodes.net

MAX BERNSTEIN is a Brooklyn based stand-up and the host of the monthly stand-up and music series "Apocalypse Wow" at Isa (http://isa.gg/). Follow him on Twitter at http://twitter.com/#!/GREATTRAGEDY
