- A new trailer teases the premiere of the CW's latest superhero drama, Black Lightning, on January 16.
- In other superheroes-of-color news, here's a new TV spot for Black Panther.
- You know it's a slow news week when we're discussing a Nic Cage movie in 2017, but Mom and Dad actually has a clever premise (a zombie-like epidemic prompts parents to try to kill their children) and favorable reviews. Worth a rental, at least.
- Marvel announced a new platform called Create Your Own, allowing fans to create their own comic strips starring Marvel characters. In a development that capped off a year filled with bad PR for the company, we quickly found out that the service will impose onerous restrictions on users; you can read the full terms of use here. Some of the restrictions are understandable (no explicit sex, graphic violence, or "discrimination based on race, sex, religion, nationality, disability, sexual orientation, or age"), others less so ("sensationalism", "social issues", "alternative lifestyle advocacies"). Marvel has yet to clear the waters, but 2018 can only go up for them, one hopes.
