In its bid to find the next Game of Thrones, Amazon is now developing several popular sci-fi properties as potential series, including Larry Niven's *Ringworld, Neal Stephenson's satiric cyberpunk novel Snow Crash, and Greg Rucka and Michael Lark's comic series Lazarus.

  • Apparently the apocalypse wasn't successfully cancelled on the last try. Guillermo del Toro isn't back to direct this time, but the first trailer for Pacific Rim: Uprising—starring the new Star Wars trilogy's John Boyega as the son of Idris Elba's character from the first film—still promises enough giant-robot-versus-giant-monster action to keep a geek happy.

  • A new trailer for How to Talk to Girls at Parties (adapted from Neil Gaiman's short story of the same name, and directed by Hedwig and the Angry Inch creator/star John Cameron Mitchell) offers up human-alien interspecies romance, 70s London punk music, and a punk-attired Nicole Kidman. The film doesn't yet have a US release date, and reviews haven't been stellar (no pun intended), but it's at least guaranteed points for originality in my book.
