Now, Netflix has announced a new animated series for a 2019 premiere, with actress Gina Rodriguez now voicing Carmen. Here's hoping the show successfully rekindles those nostalgic memories, along with influencing myriad cosplayers.
- Marvel released the character lineup for the upcoming New Warriors show, including openly lesbian character Debrii.
- Early footage from 2018's Black Panther was screened to members of the press this week, and it seemed to imply a same-sex romance between two of the Dora Milaje (the Black Panther's female bodyguards), mirroring a recent storyline in the Black Panther comics. Marvel representatives subsequently denied that the relationship between those two characters would be anything but platonic, sparking myriad queer fan complaints.
- Fox has revealed release dates for its upcoming Marvel films, including Deadpool 2, New Mutants, and X-Men: Dark Phoenix. Dark Phoenix, presumably featuring Game of Thrones' Sophie Turner reprising her X-Men: Apocalypse role as Jean Grey, will adapt the much-beloved storyline from the 1980s, and hopefully will fare better than the last big-screen attempt.
