- Two years ago, Marvel announced plans to release an Inhumans movie in 2018. That film since got delayed, and then removed from Marvel's schedule altogether. But hope was not lost: the Inhumans will now get a TV series on ABC next fall. In an unusual move, it'll be filmed in IMAX, and the first two episodes will premiere in theaters before making their television debut. I'm just hoping that my favorite teleporting dog Lockjaw is along for the ride.
- Jeff Smith's justly beloved all-ages indie fantasy Bone has been in development as a movie, off and on, for the better part of twenty years. After several years without any news, the film adaptation now has a new writer and director attached, so let's hope it finally happens. Say it with me: stupid, stupid rat creatures!
- A lot of you love fantasy, musicals, and Disney princesses, so the debut of a new trailer for the upcoming live-action version of Beauty and the Beast will probably excite a few of you. Disney is trumpeting that the trailer broke records for online viewing in its first 24 hours; looking like another successful remake (financially, at least).
- Marvel has finally announced a creative team for their book starring queer Latina heroine America Chavez; appropriately enough, they've secured a queer Latinx writer for the book, acclaimed young-adult writer (and LGBT nonprofit employee!) Gabby Rivera. Check out the link for an interview with the author.
'“Gaming for a long time has been advertised and marketed to young white men,” Mr. Conn said before echoing a point that has been made about the national mood. “As the marketing and the products are shifting a little bit toward including more women and people of color and queer people, you’re seeing this backlash.”
Out in the lounge, a 32-year-old attendee going by the name Lis, who had come from Harrison, N.Y., and used the gender-neutral pronouns “they” and “them,” said, “This convention, postelection, actually feels more important to me than before.”
Lis was dressed as a nonbinary character from a role-playing game called Undertale: bright blue sweatshirt with pink stripes, heart-shaped locket and brown bob wig. Growing up near Syracuse, Lis obsessed over games like Super Mario Bros. and Star Fox. Lis said, “I didn’t have Jesus, but I had Nintendo.”'
