San Diego may be home to the Comic Con International and Portland has a burgeoning comic scene, but New York City is still the heartbeat of all things comics. Not only was NYC the subject of variant Marvel covers this years, the current New-York Historical Society exhibition "Superheroes in Gotham", the yearly New York Comic Con and Comic Arts Brooklyn, but 7 of the 15 outstanding comics chosen by the Village Voice for 2015 have strong ties to the “City that never sleeps”.
Pull up a bench at Central Park or your favorite New York coffee shop and read some of these Village Voice best of 2015 NYC related comics; The Bronze Age of DC Comics (Taschen, $60), Out of Line: The Art of Jules Feiffer (Abrams, $40), Invisible Ink (Fantagraphics, $30), Comic Book Legal Defense Fund's Liberty Anyool ($5, which helps support the CBLDF's anti-censorship efforts) Translucid (Boom Studios, $30), The Sculptor (First Second, $30), Providence (Avatar; five issues currently, $5 each).
