Ever since it was announced that NBC would be producing a series based on the Hellblazer/Constantine comic book, fans have been wondering if their beloved character would be a pale comparison to the property it was based on...
(cough)
(cough)
...or would it hue more towards the original source material?
Despite the performance of the wonderful and frequent genderfucker Tilda Swinton...
..nothing could save it from Keanu not being the "Three B's" (British, Blonde, and Bisexual).
With Constantine being made into a series, we could explore more of the world and his character. And the producers seemed to hit all of the right marks.
Matt Ryan, the actor portraying Constantine is both British (okay, Welsh) and he is blonde (okay, been made blonde for the series). These are all steps that show the producers are serious about honoring the source material and making the fans happy. However early on, producers and NBC tried to downplay the character's bisexuality, even saying that it wouldn't be addressed or that he was straight. They've since gone on to say that he could be, but not to assume that he was either.
Yesterday, Daniel Cerone, executive producer and writer for NBC's Constantine tweeted the following. (thanks to @TheCodeCrimson for telling us about it)
Whether this is an outright admission to his bisexuality, or just another way of teasing fans to continue watching, I don't know. But the storylines are getting better, and I do want to see if they'll be given the chance to introduce this within the storyline.
