Given Disney's immense success with translating their animated properties into live action--see 2010's Alice in Wonderland and this year's Maleficent--it's little surprise that the House of Mouse is continuing to mine its animated classics, with upcoming films that include a new The Jungle Book, an Alice in Wonderland sequel, and for some reason a new Pete's Dragon. But whereas those earlier films at least offered fresh takes on their antecedents, 2015's live-action Cinderella, directed by Kenneth Branagh, just looks like a straight remake of the animated film. This time, the mice apparently don't talk (no "Cinderelly, Cinderelly"?).
On the other hand, there is potential for some genuine camp potential in the form of Cate Blanchett, hopefully chewing the scenery voraciously as the evil Lady Tremaine (though why do her outfits appear at least a century more modern than anyone else's)? And Game of Thrones' Robb Stark, Richard Madden looks great as the prince. Still, looks to me like you'd be better off pulling out a copy of the 1950 original.
