Okay, no this show is not Buffy, but it definitely grows in the field that Buffy was plowed. It's also got all the sex of True Blood, but without any of the frustrations, poor writing choices or gratuitous gore. Lost Girl can be compared to both, but it stands alone and here are six reasons why you should give it your attention.
1. SEXUAL PREFERENCES AIN'T NO THANG
Attraction happens without labels on this show. If you like a dude, then that is that. These writers don't feel the need to explain or justify. People fall in love and everyone is okay with it. While it is true that no show can break ground like Buffy and Xena (among others) did, but Lost Girl flourishes in the space they created.
2. GEORGE TAKEI
Guess who makes an awesome appearance in Season 4? We won't tell you who is plays, but we will say it isn't human and it's brilliant.
3. DYSON (KRISTEN HOLDEN-REID)
They can hardly make it through an episode without him flashing his rippled abs. Enough said.
4. KENZI (KSENIA SOLO)
This gorgeous, tough-talking sidekick is the Jubilee figure of the show (no literally, they totally give a nod to Jubilee in Season 4). She's quick witted, lovable, can dance up a storm and the actress might be related to Hans.
5. THE FRIENDSHIP
These guys know friendship is not always easy, but it is almost always worthwhile. You know how Tara and Sookie on True Blood are supposedly best friends but almost never cross paths or do anything nice for each other? Well this show is nothing like that. These characters may not rival Gamgee and Baggins, but they aren't slacking far behind either.
5. SEX
Yes the show has a lot of sex, which they justify with a succubus main character who feeds on it. Nevertheless, the show doesn't really slut shame, which is refreshing. Promiscuous female characters who aren't evil, completely inebriated or consumately punished are rare on telivision. Yay for feminism!
6.LOST GIRL ISN'T AFRAID TO GET IT'S GROOVE ON
Lastly, season 4 is littered with random dance numbers and singers, which sounds awful but ends up being brilliantly entertaining. Any geeks out there with a soft spot for the performing arts will be tickled. Hats off to the producers of this show for supporting the arts.
